Detailed Descriptions of Some Common Ailments and the Recommended Treatments for Same

ABSCESSES

Caused where the outer layer of skin has closed over a cut, wound, sting or bite before the infection, debris or bacteria has been removed; abscesses are the body's way of keeping the problem contained within a small area.

    Internally:

    Days 1 to 7

    5 times the daily dose

    Days 8 to 21

    3 times the daily dose

From day 22, reduce by 1ml per day until the normal daily maintenance dose is reached. Then continue with the recommended daily dose. If, however, the animal has been infected over many years, then the allergy may need to be treated more than once. Repeat the process as and when necessary.

Externally:  Thoroughly cleanse the infected area with Aloe Vera Juice. Then soak some cotton wool in hot water and apply to the base of the Abscess, gently squeeze and remove the pus. Fill the hole with Aloe Gelly and repeat the process, until all the pus has been removed. (If during this process it is possible to remove the debris, then do so). Leave for five minutes or so then coat the infected area with Aloe Gelly. Repeat the process at least twice a day until the abscess has gone. But continue applying the Aloe Gelly for at least a week after to protect the infected tissue. If applied regularly, TAVAC's Aloe Gelly will reduce scarring significantly.

ALLERGIES & INFECTIONS

Both internally and externally, animal Allergies and Infections cover a very broad spectrum. Although both can appear to be very complex, the majority are caused by foods containing preservatives, chemicals or ingredients that the animal cannot fully digest or absorb. Using products of a toxic nature can also cause an allergic reaction. All chemical-based Flea, Tick, Mite and Fly repellents are potentially poisonous and are likely to cause some sort of allergic reaction -even if you cannot see it.

    Internally:

When dry, apply liberal amounts of Aloe Gelly at least twice a day. Continue to apply Aloe Gelly twice daily for at least a week after symptoms have disappeared to help protect from further infection.

ARTHRITIS

Unfortunately Arthritis is more common in animals than is widely thought and it is a problem that can affect all ages and species. Basically an inflammation of the joints, the accompanying pain and swelling causes distress and can even affect the animal's behaviour as the condition worsens.

    Internally:

    Days 1 to 60

    3 times the daily dose

    Days 61 to 90

    2 times the daily dose

From day 91 reduce by 1ml per day until the normal daily dose is reached and continue with this amount indefinitely, adjusting for age and climate conditions.

Externally: Where possible a couple of times a day, especially before and after exercise, gently apply Aloe Gelly or Aloe Vera Cream and massage the joints and surrounding area .

CANKER & EAR MITES

Although it is not possible to see Ear Mites without a microscope, it is fairly easy to identify a mite infection as the ear will be filled with dark brown chunks of wax. If your animal does not like having its ears rubbed and cries and moans, the chances are it has ear mites. Some animals scratch their ears continually when mites are present. As ear mites are contagious, you will also need to check other animals coming into contact with them.

    Internally:

If your animal is susceptible to ear mites or infections of the ear, keep it on double the daily dose to help fight future problems.

Externally:  Fill the ear canal with Aloe Vera Juice and gently massage for a few minutes. This will allow the Aloe to soak into the infected area. Then allow the animal to shake its head to clear the excess fluid and wax. With some cotton wool (not buds) gently remove as much of the remaining fluid and wax as possible. Re-fill with Aloe Gelly and repeat the above process. Repeat the whole process at least twice a day for a week to help prevent spreading the infection or mites. Also apply liberal amounts of Aloe Gelly or Aloe Vera Cream to the outside of the ears and around the head as the mites can also live in these areas.

CUTS & PUNCTURE WOUNDS

All cuts and puncture wounds need to be dealt with as quickly as possible to prevent further infection, regardless of where they are on the body. If any debris is still present, gently remove it.

    Internally:

    Days 1 to 7

    5 times the daily dose

    Days 8 to 21

    3 times the daily dose

From day 22, reduce by 1ml per day until the normal daily maintenance dose is reached. Then continue with the recommended daily dose. Repeat the process as and when necessary.

Externally:  Thoroughly cleanse the infected area with Aloe Vera Juice. When dry apply liberal amounts of Aloe Gelly at least twice a day. Continue to apply Aloe Gelly twice daily for at least a week after symptoms have disappeared to help protect from further infection.

DIARRHOEA & SCOURS

These two problems are very similar and what applies to one equally applies to the other. Unfortunately diet – or, rather, improper feeding – is the major cause, followed by an infection or a virus. If left untreated, both could become serious due to the accompanying dehydration. Dehydration is not always noticeable, especially where several animals have access to water. With over two hundred constituents in our Aloe Vera Juice, it is probably the most effective product for dealing with either problem.

Internally:  Give the recommended daily dose of Aloe Vera juice every two or three hours until the Diarrhoea has stopped, followed by every five to six hours. Return to the original daily dose and, if the problem re-occurs frequently, see the Allergies & Infections Guide.

Externally:  Wash off all signs of Diarrhoea with Aloe Vera Juice. When dry apply liberal amounts of Aloe Gelly or Aloe Vera Cream around the anus. This will help fight the spread of external infections and relieve any irritation .

ECZEMA

Although in principal an allergy, Eczema is currently one of the most debated issues concerning animals. All animals suffer from some form of eczema, which is either food or water related, or a result of using insect repellents or various vaccinations and drugs given to treat other problems. TAVAC's founder Adrian Baker (along with an increasing number of other animal lovers) believes and maintains that prescription diets and/or anti-inflammatory drugs, steroids and antibiotics can do more harm than good when dealing with eczema. Ideally, instead of pumping the animal full of these drugs the root of the problem should be found and resolved to prevent further occurrences.

    Internally:

    Days 1 to 30

    5 times the daily dose

    Days 31 to 90

    3 times the daily dose

From day 91 reduce by 1ml each day until you reach the normal daily dose. (This extended period is essential to remove as many toxins as possible).

EYE INFECTIONS

Cloudy Corneas are where an opaque film forms over the eye and impairs the vision.

Cataracts are where the lens of the eye becomes crystallized and thus fails to transmit light to the retina in sufficient quantity or quality to form a clear image.

Conjunctivitis is where the soft pink/white lining surrounding the eyeball is inflamed or swollen. This is occasionally caused by airborne infections and/or viruses picked up from other animals or plants.

Although the symptoms are different, all can be helped using Tavac's Aloe Vera products. These eye problems are usually a direct result of a systemic virus, which may have been present for some time. If not treated, these problems can lead to blindness.

    Internally:

Externally:  Using an eyedropper or eye bath, dilute Aloe Vera Juice 50/50 with distilled water. Apply four or five times a day for the first seven days. From day 8 use the Aloe Vera Juice undiluted.

MANGE

Normally associated with animals suffering from flea infections, Mange is extremely unpleasant and contagious. Be patient and tolerant, especially where scratching is concerned.

The mites that cause the mange find it easier to attack an animal when its immune system has already been weakened. Working dogs and those living in the country are particularly prone to mange. If one of your animals has mange, make sure it is kept away from the others until the problem has been dealt with.

    Internally:

    Days 1 to 30

    5 times the daily dose

    Days 31 to 90

    3 times the daily dose

From day 91 reduce by 1ml each day until you reach the normal daily dose. (This extended period is essential to remove as many toxins as possible).

RESPIRATORY SYNDROME

Probably the most common of all Systemic Viruses, this particular problem affects almost all animals. Respiratory Syndrome affects the respiratory tract and there may be crusted or peeling skin around the nostrils and ears. The symptoms are similar to those suffered by animals with Conjunctivitis, which is why it is often overlooked. Continual scratching of the ears, eyes, nose and/or throat as well as vomiting and/or coughing frequently are the most obvious signs of a Systemic Respiratory Virus.

The most common cause is Stress as a result of travelling, moving house and/or being confined for long periods of time. Other causes can be stress related to chemical-based products being applied externally, perhaps flea sprays or steroid skin creams.

Internally:  To thoroughly flush the internal system, large quantities of Aloe Vera Juice need to be administered on a daily basis. These quantities should be given with the animal's food. Ideally divide the quantity into three doses: morning, midday and evening. Alternatively, add to the animal's daily fresh water supply.

Days 1 to 7

20 times daily dose

Days 8 to 14

15 times daily dose

Days 15 to 21

10 times daily dose

Days 22 to 30

5 times daily dose

From day 31, reduce by 1ml per day until the normal daily maintenance dose is reached and continue with this to help prevent further problems. As these large quantities will be cleaning out and rebuilding the immune system, do not be surprised if your animal eats more food and subsequently needs to go to the toilet more frequently. Even if they don't eat more, because the Aloe Vera Juice helps to assimilate the food they will still need the loo more!

If your animal's stools become loose during the first week or so, please do not worry, as this is indicative of the toxins being removed effectively. It should only happen for a few days.

Externally:   Using an eyedropper or eye bath, dilute Aloe Vera Juice 50/50 with distilled water. Apply four or five times a day for the first seven days. From day 8 use the Aloe Vera Juice undiluted. For the Throat and Nostril infections, gently syringe with Aloe Vera Juice at least three times a day. Where possible, also gently massage Aloe Gelly or Aloe Vera Cream around the animal's neck and nose.

RHEUMATISM

Often mistaken for Arthritis, Rheumatism affects the muscles making them stiff and painful. Because of the very severe pain, animals can become temperamental. A common misconception is that Rheumatic problems are the result of strains and sprains or wear and tear. TAVAC's Adrian Baker is convinced that Rheumatism is caused by at least one of the following:

  • A build up of waste products/toxins in the muscles.
  • Weakness of the major internal organs.
  • Unbalanced food intake or excessive feeding of treats, leading to increased toxins in the blood and muscles.

Like Arthritis, Rheumatism may have taken years to develop to the point where it is noticeable, although young animals can be prone to the same problems if over exercised or fed the wrong food at an early age. As with Arthritis, the dosage may vary according to severity and the animal's overall condition. Older or overweight animals may take longer to respond than younger or fitter animals, so please be patient if treating either of these problems.

DE-WORMING - Particularly Roundworms

Of all the parasitic creatures that our animals have to contend with, fleas and flies are probably the worst, as they are known to carry and infest their hosts with other parasitic creatures, especially worms. There are many different types but the most common in pets and animals are Roundworms. Primarily caused by flies laying eggs on the animal's food, they infect not only the gut but also the digestive organs. Rather than using chemical based de-wormers, which can cause other problems in the gut and digestive organs, TAVAC recommends the following:

Internally:  Give your pets or animals the recommended daily dose of our Aloe Vera Juice every day. On the first day of each month give 10 times the daily dose for extra protection against Roundworms. This higher quantity should not upset your pets or animals, although their stools may be loose for a day or so afterwards and this is quite normal.
